Ellie Messinger-Adams Therapist and Practice Owner
ĒMA Therapy is a boutique practice, meaning I intentionally maintain a small caseload to provide deeply personalized care. This allows me to be more accessible, flexible, and responsive to your needs. My rates reflect over a decade of experience, specialized training, and a commitment to evidence-based, tailored support for mothers navigating the anxiety, identity shifts, and challenges of matrescence and motherhood as a whole.
You deserve a therapist who is not only highly trained but also deeply invested in helping you reach your goals with care that is uniquely designed for you.

No. I am an out-of-network provider and do not accept insurance.
I am paneled with Lyra which is an EAP program.

Absolutely! If you have a PPO plan you may be eligible to use out-of-network (OON) insurance benefits. Please note: Using OON benefits means you will be responsible for paying for each session in full at time of appointment.
Good News: I work with Thrizer, a platform that helps clients get money back on OON therapy sessions. If you have OON benefits, Thrizer will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to make sure you get reimbursed.
Note: Thrizer’s goal is to save you time and money. It's completely optional, and as your therapist I do not benefit in any way from your participation.
Follow the link to learn more about how Thrizer works and set up an account to instantly check your OON benefits.

Like many specialized providers, I choose not to work directly with insurance companies because they often dictate the type and duration of treatment, which can limit the personalized care you deserve. Choosing to pay out of pocket offers you the freedom to prioritize privacy, confidentiality, and flexibility. It also allows me to keep a smaller caseload, ensuring a more deeply supportive experience and the ability to focus fully on overcoming motherhood anxiety, reclaiming your identity, healing childhood wounds, and building confidence as a mom—without the restrictions often imposed by insurance.
Additionally, insurance requires a formal diagnosis, and while some mothers may face challenges severe enough to warrant one, this is not true for everyone. Many of the struggles mothers experience—such as identity shifts, overwhelm, and navigating the complexities of motherhood—are not medical conditions but are still deeply impactful and deserving of support. By not contracting with insurance, I can tailor therapy to your unique needs without external limitations.
If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with a superbill (an itemized receipt of services) to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. To make this process easier, I partner with Thrizer, a service that helps clients maximize their out-of-network benefits and streamline the reimbursement process.

I have a 48 hour cancelation policy. What this means is that I require 48hrs notice of a cancelation otherwise there will be a fee of the cost of a full session. This fee is not covered by insurance so would be out of pocket. The reason for this policy is to ensure that I am able to keep my doors open and my business running. It also allow me ample time to fill any openings and plan for breaks to the best of my ability.

Yes, I offer a limited number of sliding scale fee slots for those who require assistance. (Currently all spots are full)

I’m crazy about kids. For a time, I worked with kids exclusively, and then I discovered that what kiddos need most is moms who are connected and tuned into themselves so they can be connected and tuned into their kids as well. As a result I do not work with children as my primary client, instead I provide mother/child relationship therapy to foster the connection and bond between mothers and their children. This type of intervention can be done at any age and stage of your kids development. I find it especially helpful for teens and tweens.

Yes, you are absolutely welcome to bring your child(ren) to therapy with you. As a mom myself, I completely understand that childcare isn’t always available and that life with little ones doesn’t pause for therapy.
Here’s how it might look:
Babies are always welcome! Whether it’s tummy time, sitting with them on the floor, feeding, or changing diapers during our session, we’ll create space to make it work. You’re free to nurse, bottle feed, or do whatever feels right for you and your baby.
For toddlers or older children, my office can be a cozy space where they can play quietly. Feel free to bring along a favorite toy, book, or tablet to help keep them entertained.
It’s important to note that sessions with kiddos present may feel a bit different. We’ll work together to create space for you to talk about what’s really on your mind, but there may be moments when we need to pause or use “code words” for sensitive topics. This ensures we can keep the session productive while respecting your child’s presence.
Ultimately, therapy is for you, and my goal is to help you feel supported, even if your little ones are along for the ride.
